When William Gay, known as “Bill Gay, the Love Doctor” worked in radio back in the 1970’s, the music he played was the newest or latest R&B, jazz, and pop records. Now, he plays some of that same music which was so new then, but now is just old school stuff.
That old musical stuff is exactly what William Gay was recognized for at the Best Old School DJ Awards ceremony held in Atlanta, Ga. on April 4, 2015. William received the 2015 Best Old School DJ Award for his DJ work at WERD – Jazz WCLK 91.9 in Atlanta, Georgia.
William began work in radio and TV in the early 1970’s. One of his fine accomplishments in radio was helping to establish WHUR radio station at Howard University in Washington, DC.
William Anthony Gay, who lives in Conley, Georgia, is married to Annie A. Gay, “Candi.” They have three daughters Tracy, Terra, and Allison.
William is the son of the late Alice Hemby and the late George L. Gay and the grandson of Pa Bob Gay and Ma Lillie Parker Gay. He has a sister, Joyce Harper of Farmville, and a brother, George Gay, Jr. of New Haven, Connecticut.
Along with playing old school jazz, William is currently working on a doctorate degree.
